At Dark Hammock Legacy Ranch, we’re working to protect the environment and be conscious of our impact. There are many wonderful organizations in Florida and in our local community that are exploring conservation efforts and working to keep Earth healthy and clean. One such research organization is working to learn and grow with Central Florida. Today, we’ll illuminate some of Archbold Station’s work and research. For more information on our community members, visit our blog.
Archbold Station
Archbold Biological Station was established in 1941. It’s the primary division of Archbold Expeditions, a nonprofit independent research institution. With more than 8,800 acres of reserve, Archbold Station is globally recognized for its research and protected land for scientific use. We’re proud to have them as our neighbors in Central Florida.
Research at Archbold
A biological station, like Archbold, is a scientific resource for studying the environment. Uniquely situated in the Florida everglades amongst scrub, its land is rich in organisms and teeming with life. Along with many other research projects, Archbold Biological Station continues to analyze small-scale prescribed burning to test hypotheses on ecological recovery.
The Influence of Archbold Station
This station is world-renowned for its research and influence in the scientific world. By studying the headwaters of the Florida Everglades, they’ve been able to achieve cutting-edge research that’s made a real impact on conservation solutions. The headwaters in the Everglades flow south into Lake Okeechobee and to the coastal waters, and by serving as a source of knowledge for this watershed, they’ve been able to contribute to the fight for conservation and a better future. We’re thrilled to illuminate those in our community working to study and conserve the land around us for a better future for all. For more information on what we do here at Dark Hammock Legacy Ranch, visit our website.
