So many parts of Florida are rich with agricultural offerings, from farms where families have been growing for generations, to local farmers markets where the community can take advantage of fresh produce and support their economy, to educational opportunities to enrich the next generation of ranchers. We’re a proud member of the ag community here in Highlands County —an area teeming with ag opportunities. For more on how we support our community, visit our website to learn about our history

Local Farms and Businesses
The area is rich with local farms. Some specialize in chickens or beef, some include wineries or restaurants, and others feature “pick-your-own” plots. More ag-focused businesses round out the area like sod companies and businesses specializing in farm tech. You can find a variety of small businesses here, many family-owned for years. Agriculture is the fourth-largest industry in Highlands County.

Events
If special events are more your speed, you’ll find great offerings right in this community’s backyard. The Highlands County Fair is a popular choice, and the UF/IFAS extension office in Highlands County hosts a number of fun, educational events such as tree-planting workshops for Arbor Day.

Learning and Growth Opportunities
You’ll find 4-H kiddos presenting their goods at the fair and FFA members showing their livestock. Highlands County Ag-Venture provides an educational experience geared toward 3rd graders where students can partake in engaged learning opportunities on topics like citrus, forestry, and dairy farming, and even beekeeping. The Highlands County Young Farmers and Ranchers, part of the Florida Farm Bureau, provides members ages 18-35 a space to network, volunteer, and continue their education in the field. We’re excited to participate in learning opportunities through our agritours at the ranch

Shopping and engaging in your community at educational opportunities and events are some great ways to get involved. We thank you for your continuous support. To purchase grass-fed beef from Dark Hammock Legacy Ranch, visit our website.
